What Not to Cook in an Air Fryer

When it comes to cooking in an air fryer, there are a few things you should avoid. While air fryers are great for creating crispy and delicious dishes, there are certain foods that may not turn out as expected or could even cause issues with the machine. Here are some items that you should steer clear of when using an air fryer:

Foods with Wet Batter:

Anything with a wet batter, such as tempura or heavily breaded foods, should not be cooked in an air fryer. The hot air circulation can cause the batter to become soggy and not crisp up properly.

Foods with Sauce:

Similarly, foods with a sauce or marinade should also be avoided. The sauce can drip or splatter in the air fryer, causing a mess and potentially damaging the machine.

Pasta (Except Pasta Crisps):

While pasta crisps can be made in an air fryer by baking the cooked pasta until crispy, traditional pasta dishes should not be cooked in an air fryer. The lack of liquid and direct heat can result in the pasta becoming dry and overcooked.

Raw Grains:

It is not recommended to cook raw grains, such as rice or quinoa, in an air fryer. These grains require water to properly cook, which the air fryer cannot provide. Stick to traditional stovetop or rice cooker methods for cooking grains.

Leafy Greens:

Fresh greens like lettuce or spinach should be avoided in an air fryer. They can quickly wilt and lose their texture when exposed to the high heat and rapid air circulation.

Remember, the air fryer is best suited for foods that benefit from the dry heat and circulating air, resulting in a crispy texture. While there are certain limitations, the air fryer can still be a versatile and convenient tool for cooking a wide range of dishes.
