Lidl Has Slashed Christmas Veg to 5p — But Shoppers Say You Have to Be Fast

Shoppers looking to cut the cost of Christmas dinner are reporting ultra-low vegetable prices at Lidl, with several festive staples reduced to just 5p per pack.

According to in-store signage and shopper reports, Lidl has dropped the price on a range of British vegetables commonly used in Christmas meals. Items included in the promotion vary by store, but many shoppers have spotted Brussels sprouts (500g), British carrots (1kg), British white potatoes (2kg), individual British swede, British parsnips (500g), and Deluxe shallots (300g) all priced at just 5p.

The move is widely seen as a Christmas footfall strategy rather than a profit-maker. These types of promotions are designed to get shoppers through the doors, where they are likely to pick up other festive items alongside the discounted vegetables.

Shoppers say availability can be unpredictable. Some stores sell out quickly, while others restock daily, often in the early morning. Those hoping to take advantage of the prices are advised to visit as early as possible and remain flexible on quantities and exact items.

Limits may apply in some locations, and not all stores carry the full range at once. Staff discretion and local demand can also affect how long the vegetables stay on shelves.

Despite the low prices, shoppers report that quality remains good, particularly for roasting vegetables that will be peeled or cooked thoroughly. Many households are using the deal to stock up for Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and freezer-friendly sides.

For families watching their budget this Christmas, Lidl’s 5p vegetable pricing is one of the most aggressive festive food deals currently available — but timing is everything.
