Five Guys Has Quietly Added a Major New Menu Option — And It’s a Big Change for the Brand

Five Guys has introduced its first brand-new permanent menu item in more than a decade, marking a rare shift for a chain known for keeping things largely unchanged. The new addition focuses on something Five Guys fans already love: fries — but this time, they’re loaded.

The restaurant has launched two new options: Loaded Cajun Fries and Loaded Salted Fries, giving customers a more customisable, indulgent way to order one of the brand’s most popular sides. Both versions start with Five Guys’ signature fries and are topped with cheese sauce and fry sauce, before customers choose from the chain’s familiar range of toppings.

What makes this launch stand out is how unusual it is for Five Guys. The menu has remained largely the same for years, with burgers, hot dogs, fries and milkshakes forming the core offering. While toppings have always been a major part of the experience, entirely new menu items are rare — which is why this launch has caught attention.

Customers can load their fries with any combination of the brand’s 14 available toppings, including grilled onions, jalapeños, mushrooms, bacon, peppers and more. The Cajun version uses the same spicy seasoning that fans already associate with Five Guys’ Cajun fries, while the salted version keeps things classic for those who prefer a milder base.

The move also reflects a wider fast-food trend towards loaded sides and more flexible ordering. Many chains have leaned into customisable, shareable options that blur the line between side dish and main meal, and Five Guys’ loaded fries fit neatly into that space.

For long-time fans, the launch feels less like a complete reinvention and more like a natural evolution of something they already order. Whether this signals more menu changes to come remains to be seen, but for a brand that rarely adds anything new, loaded fries represent a notable — and very on-brand — step forward.
