Air Fryer Carrot Chips

Carrots are one of those vegetables that we have probably had every single way imaginable. But this time, let’s change it up and try something new—air fryer carrot chips!

What separates these from the rest of the carrot recipes is that we use a crinkle slicer to give the carrots a fun, wavy texture. The air fryer then crisps them up to perfection!

Let’s get cooking!

Ingredients

Air Fryer Carrot Chips ingredients
  • 2 large carrots
  • Avocado oil (or other cooking oil)
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • salt and pepper, to taste

Tools

  • air fryer
  • crinkle slicer knife

Instructions

Preheat your air fryer to 360°F.

Peel the carrots and use a sharp knife or a curly knife slicer to slice them into thin, even slices.

Slicing the carrots

The thinner they are, the crispier they will be.

Place the slices in a bowl.

Carrots in a bowl

Drizzle a tablespoon of avocado oil over the carrot slices, then sprinkle evenly with dried parsley, salt, and pepper.

Use clean hands to mix everything together until all the carrots are well coated with oil and seasoning.

Place the seasoned carrots in an even layer on your air fryer’s basket or tray, making sure not to overcrowd it as this will prevent them from getting crispy.

Cook for 12 minutes or until golden brown and crisp, flipping halfway through cooking time if necessary.

Once finished cooking, let cool slightly before serving or storing away for later enjoyment!

Recipe Tips

You can switch up the flavors by adding other seasonings such as garlic powder, chili powder, onion powder or cumin instead of parsley for extra flavor!

For even more crunchy goodness, try doubling down on flavors by seasoning the carrot slices with both dry herbs and wet ingredients like honey or a light glaze of BBQ sauce before air frying them!

FAQs

How do I make sure my carrot chips come out extra crispy?

Make sure you’re slicing your carrots as thinly as possible so they get nice and golden on both sides in your air fryer! Also try doubling down on flavor by adding wet ingredients like honey or BBQ sauce after drizzling them with oil first – this helps add some extra crispiness when it hits heat in your air fryer!

Can I use any kind of carrot for this recipe?

Yes! You can use regular orange carrots for traditional chips or opt for multicolored baby carrots for a vibrant twist. The type of carrot won’t affect cooking time too much but different sizes may need slight adjustments based on how thickly you slice them so keep an eye out while cooking!

How do I store leftover carrot chips?

Store cooled, leftover carrot chips in an airtight container for 1-2 days in the refrigerator. Reheat them in the air fryer or oven at 375°F for about 3-4 minutes until warmed through and crispy.

Can I make these with sweet potatoes instead of carrots?

Yes! Sweet potatoes make a great substitute for carrots in this recipe – just remember to adjust cooking time based on how thickly you slice them.

Is this a vegan-friendly recipe?

Absolutely – all of the ingredients used are vegan-friendly, so these Air Fryer Carrot Chips are a great option if you’re looking for a cruelty-free snack.

What other vegetables can I use to make chips?

You can try making chips with almost any vegetable! Popular options include zucchini, butternut squash, turnips, and beets – just adjust cooking time accordingly based on the size and thickness of your slices.

What can I dip my carrot chips in?

Try dipping your Air Fryer Carrot Chips in hummus, tzatziki sauce, guacamole or even ranch dressing for an extra flavor boost!

Can I mix different seasonings together when making these chips?

Absolutely! Go wild with different flavor combinations to find what you love best – try Italian seasoning mix, chili powder plus garlic powder, cumin and paprika or dried herbs like oregano and thyme for something unique.

Should I preheat my air fryer before cooking the carrots?

Yes – preheating your air fryer is important as it helps ensure that your carrots become crunchy and golden on both sides while they cook evenly. Preheat it to 360 °F before adding your seasoned slices into the basket or tray.

Is it better to peel or not peel my carrots before slicing them?

It’s completely up to you! Skinning your carrots will give them a smoother texture but leaving the skin on adds extra nutrition. However, some people may find leaving their skins intact too tough so peeling is usually recommended.

How long will these take to cook in my air fryer?

The exact cooking time will vary depending on how thinly you slice your carrots but generally they should be ready within 12 minutes at 360°F flipping halfway through if necessary. Monitor closely after 10 minutes to ensure they don’t burn due to varying temperatures between models of air fryers.

Will cooking times change if I double or triple the recipe quantities?

When doubling (or tripling) recipes always check earlier than suggested times as larger batches may need additional time but only slightly longer than what was originally stated (usually no more than 2-3 minutes). Monitor closely after 10 minutes so that food does not burn due to varying temperatures between models of air fryers.
